Sr. Commodity Buyer

Conroe, TX

Direct hire Sr. Commodity Buyer Buyer Procurement

A global manufacturer of engineered metal storage and containment systems is hiring a Senior Commodity Buyer to own direct-material sourcing for aluminum, steel, fabricated components, and outside processing at its Texas production facility. You are the senior buyer on the desk and the first call when material runs short or a supplier slips, driving RFQs, quote analysis, negotiations, and recovery while keeping ERP data clean and feeding make-versus-buy and supplier-selection recommendations to the category manager. It is a high-ownership seat for a buyer who has run metals and fabrication spend and wants room to shape sourcing strategy.

  • Up to $99K base salary, based on experience
  • Full suite of benefits, 401K w/match, PTO/Holiday

Overview

  • Keep aluminum, steel, fabricated parts, and outside-fab services flowing so projects and the plant never wait on material
  • Act as first escalation on shortages, late deliveries, and capacity constraints, and own the recovery plan
  • Run RFQ and RFP events: specs, bid packages, quote comparisons, commercial analysis, and supplier recommendations
  • Lead routine negotiations on price, lead time, freight, capacity, tooling, and quality within set limits
  • Own PO execution, changes, expediting, invoice and price correction, and closeout
  • Maintain supplier scorecards and drive SCARs and defect resolution with Quality and Engineering
  • Protect ERP data integrity and supplier onboarding records for assigned commodities
  • Partner with plant and inventory teams on MRP, safety stock, and production priorities
  • Support engineered-to-order and capital projects: confirm requirements, obtain quotes, track milestones, flag risk
  • Work PPV review, savings validation, and spend visibility with Finance

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • APICS, CPSM, or comparable supply chain or procurement certification (preferred)
  • Strongly Preferred – 5+ years of progressive purchasing or supply-chain experience in manufacturing
  • Strongly Preferred – direct buying of aluminum, steel, fabricated metal parts, and outside processing or fabrication
  • Hands-on D365 or comparable ERP/MRP, with advanced Excel
  • Strategic sourcing, supplier performance management, and commercial negotiation experience
  • Power BI reporting or dashboards (preferred)
  • Knowledge of metal market drivers, fabrication processes, drawings, and supplier capacity planning (preferred)
  • Experience supporting multiple plants or engineered-to-order operations (preferred)
